When DEF is injected into the exhaust stream, urea reacts with the NOx to form harmless nitrogen and water vapor, reducing air pollution.

Cosmetics and Personal Care: Urea is used in cosmetic and personal care products such as moisturizers, lotions, and creams due to its ability to retain moisture and hydrate the skin. It helps soften and smooth the skin, making it a common ingredient in skincare formulations.

Deicing Agent: Urea can be used as a deicing agent to melt ice and snow on roads, sidewalks, and airport runways. When applied to icy surfaces, urea absorbs heat from the surroundings, causing the ice to melt and break apart.

Heat Treatment: Urea is sometimes used in heat treatment processes for metals and alloys. It can be used as a component in molten salt baths or as a source of nitrogen in atmosphere-controlled furnaces, helping to prevent oxidation and improve the surface properties of the treated materials.

Analytical Chemistry: Urea is used in analytical chemistry as a reagent and standard for various assays and tests. It is commonly used in protein and nucleic acid analysis, as well as in chromatography and electrophoresis techniques.
